Have a Beautiful, Compassionate, Kiss-Worthy Day Today!

With Cowboy at Animal Acres, 2010.
It's Sunday, and, for many of us, a chance to relax and renew. What better way to celebrate life today than by doing something compassionate for the animals? Today, I'll be volunteering my time at Animal Acres, which I'm so excited about doing. Here are a few animal-friendly ideas I've dreamed up for all of you beautiful people out there...

You could:

Eat vegan for the whole day (if you're not vegan yet),

Watch an informative video (like the ones I have on the blog here),

Send a loving email to your family and friends with a link to a special animal sanctuary video, like the one below:

Plan a pot-luck party for your friends and loved ones with a vegan theme,

Meditate for a little bit about ways to help the animals this year,

Cook a vegan meal for your non-vegan friends and/or family,

Visit a farmed animal sanctuary - just google your city and state and the words "farm animal sanctuary" and see what pops up,

Pick up that animal rights book you've been meaning to read, or purchase one today,

Enter yourself into our Melanie Joy giveaway, since we've extended the deadline by a few days,

Cuddle for a while with your companion animals, look into their eyes, and promise them that you will not only honor them, but honor all animals this year,

Bake some yummy vegan cupcakes to bring to your work/school/rehearsal/meetings tomorrow,

Brainstorm a list of different ways you can be a bolder animal activist this year (and yes, by reading this blog, you are an animal-activist-in-training, so celebrate it!),

If you haven't done so yet, look for cruelty-free versions of your favorite beauty products at your local Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or online (remember to look for the bunny on the back that says "Cruelty Free"!)

Say a prayer for the abused animals of this world - that we may find better and better ways to be their voice and free them from cruelty.

And finally, you can follow the advice of my long-time hero, Colleen Patrick-Goudreau:

"Don't do nothing because you can't do everything. Do something, anything!"

Slowly converting friends... Convinced one set of friends to use only veggie burgers. Also, talked a friend into ordering a vegan selection at our favorite vegan restaurant. She loved it. Had other friends over for my bean stew. They had seconds! One friend saw and shared the roasted spiced chickpea recipe with me. I told her how to make kale chips. Now, I've convinced her and her husband to come over for a Gardein chick'n scallopini dinner.

Ruth - sounds like you are doing so much good in PA. :) And isn't that an awesome quote? I say it all the time to people who don't think they can go vegan!

Thanks for finding the Farm Sanctuary video re Maxine. I featured it in a post on Veganelder (http://veganelder.blogspot.com/2011/03/consciousness-raising.html) and credited you with the find.

I thought the interview with Ms. Capers from NYCACC was incredibly powerful at highlighting the common (and astonishing) disconnect between what we do (food choices) and the consequences. She was simultaneously dismaying, articulate and inspiring.

Excellent video and thank you again for your great blog!
