Forks over Knives

Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselsytn are both pioneers in the field
of preventative medicine and nutrition. You may recognize Dr. Campbell's name -
he's the guy who wrote the internationally acclaimed The China Study, a
book that makes a deep connection (through irrefutable evidence) between a
plant-based diet and the prevention and reversal of most cancers, diabetes, and
heart disease. Dr. Campbell is also the Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, and the Project Director of the China-Oxford-Cornell Diet and Health Project.

Dr. Essylstyn is author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, a nutritional program backed by the results from Dr. Esselstyn’s 20-year study proving changes in diet and can actually prevent and cure heart disease. Dr. Esselstyn is also a former internationally known surgeon, researcher and clinician at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Together, with the help of a dynamic and brave creative team, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn have created a documentary called "Forks over Knives", a film that I'm sure will completely change how we view disease prevention and reversal.

When I initially made the decision to go vegan, I did it 100% for the animals. Like many of you readers, I changed my lifestyle because I wanted to say I loved animals and be able to include every animal in that statement. What I hadn't prepared myself for was the total inner body makeover I discovered once I settled into my plant-based diet. The health benefits were huge: major digestive problems subsided, I began to have more energy, and I just felt stronger and more alert in the morning. Mostly, my body literally felt at peace - which just proves that when you put your mind to something, your body will follow.

I say all of this because, as significant as it is to value and honor the animals of this world (and it is one of the most important tasks in one's life), at the end of the day, we must all take care of ourselves first.  It is our own personal health and well being that will allow us to be strong, dynamic vegans and voices for the animals who need our help now more than ever.

I absolutely can't wait for this film to come out! I encourage you to learn more about it, and share this trailer with family and friends. For more information, you can check out www.forksoverknives.com

This is the first I've heard of this film and I can't wait to find out more. Sounds amazing!

And if you can believe it - despite the fact that I am such a vegan health advocate - I have yet to read The China Study. I seriously need to get on that!

My biggest goal for Plate+Simple is to inspire others to adopt (or lean towards) a plant-based diet by proving that a vegan can be the picture of amazing, glowing, perfect health. I just want to shout from the rooftops that a vegan diet truly makes people THRIVE inside and out.

Sounds like this film is right up my alley. Thanks for sharing!

I'm so glad you wrote about "Forks over Knives." Steve has been talking about it for months now, and I need to have MY hubby see it. Since I eliminated all animal flesh (including fish), he is now balking at my delicious, homemade vegan suppers. I need to get him motivated again!
It is simply stunning the transformation that happens body and mind when you live and eat compassionately.

My husband and I were just last night discussing how just by being vegan- I can pass up the junk foods out there for two reasons..
1. not vegan
2. don't need it

I would have never passed up a tastycake before...but now it's effortless. Yay!

I love your blog and look forward to watching this movie. I am trying to spread the news as much as I can. I myself became vegan only a month ago while pursuing a healthier body. I was not an "animal lover" although I had compassion and love for every living thing, but I must admit that becoming vegan has made me more conscious of animal cruelty. It has also solidified my commitment and I do my best to share my new found knowledge with anyone that will listen. I am currently taking a Wellness class that is centered around the China Study. I pray that this movie will awaken more people to this amazing life and powerful truth.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I look forward to reading more of your posts.
I just have to say you need to read or listen to "The China Study". I just listened to it this weekend and what amazing finds! I am so happy to be Vegan and headed in the right direction with my health. Keep on blogging, I love to read them!! :-)

I am really proud of these two Doctors for deciding to make this documentary film. The China Study may seem as a "good reference" book and it is. But to take what has been learned in the book and produce a documentary that most people will be able to translate for themselves and their families lives (most families have disease in them), is GREAT. The greatest thing though will be for most EVERYONE to watch this film when it comes out.
Thank you Lindsay for spreading the word on this film and the book, The China Study! Now, I want to read an interview with them :) Outside of being really smart and great researchers I would love to know about them on a different level too!
(Can't wait to read Jonathan's paper:)).
